1. Alberta has WAY too many Christian radio stations
2. There is NO radio between Banff and Jasper, AB.
3. Driving from Edmonton to Calgary, 120kph impedes normal traffic flow
4. One in 3 drivers has either an SUV or van. Very wasteful.
5. I am addicted to electronics. For real. I was almost having withdrawl from non-access to the web.
6. West Edmonton Mall is huge, and overrated.
7. I do not miss my bunny.
8. I really want out of debt so I can go on proper vacations more often. (Four years left. :/ )
9. The AC Maple Leaf Lounge rocks.
10. I can spend 10 days in my husband's presence, non-stop, and still like him a whole lot at the end of the trip. :)

It's great. I like having very little scheduled and being able to relax and enjoy time with
largestill .
I'm staying at my aunt & uncle's place in Calgary for the first few nights. Then we head to Banff in a borrowed van from my dad. Then passing through Lake Louise on our way to Jasper. Then Edmonton and the world's most ridiculous mall. Then down to Drumheller/the Badlands and finally Calgary again.
See a map of our route here
It'll be an awesome road trip. I can't wait. I haven't seen most of these place in ..... 15 years?
largestill has never been out West at all, so this is really cool for him.
Yesterday, we visited the Calgary Zoo and saw a ton of totally adorable creatures (pictures to follow). We rode the LRT in the city transit on the way back to my uncle's place. Then had a BBQ at my dad's place. Nom nom steak, nom nom. Turns out that through my Hummus obsession a few weeks ago when I was sick, that new stepmom Connie tried it herself and now is a total fan too. So we gorged on that last night.
I think that's partially why I'm not yet hungry for breakfast.
The 3-hour time difference hasn't messed us up too much. Although when we go back, it'll be a bit harder to adjust I think.

largestill :yuppers! :D FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
jennymoon :So we'll head there before going to the renfair on Gottigen?
largestill :I am scared to go to the renfair. :/
largestill :There is dangerous people around there.
Do you know there was 2 stabbings and a shooting today. o_O;
jennymoon :that's insane.
jennymoon :geezus!
I didn't realize it was that bad. I don't want to go now.
largestill : lol One of the stabbings was out near us though.
It was from an argument over some sort of electronics.
jennymoon :let's never leave the house again.
largestill : okay.

Explanation:
I'm participating at a mini renaissance-style fair this Saturday. The community centre they booked is in the WORST area of Halifax, where you get dead if you're a person of colour, drug buyer/dealer, or an innocent person in the 3-block radius.
Fear.

Another PIXAR smash. They are guaranteed gold. It was funny, heartwarming, life lessons, all the stuff you'd expect.
Do not pay any extra to see it in 3D, not worth it. Unless your local theatre lets you keep the glasses, like I got to. I may incorporate them into a dorky costume later.
But the movie is great. :)

IMDB page for Star Trek (2009)
Effing awesome.
Even if I didn't already love Star Trek - this would still be an awesome movie based on great dialogue, perfectly cast actors, tons of action and special effects.
But since I do love the series so much, all the extra little homages to original characters and inside jokes made it that much better.
LOVED it. :D
This kid is totally brilliant. One of the best guitar players I've heard, for reals. He doesn't sing along, but he sort of adds the sung notes into the strumming...
Plus this is one of my favourite songs, ever. He plays contemporary stuff, classical stuff, and has a few of his own compositions.

This film was pretty good. It could be retitled: "Cantankerous, racists old man has neighbours he doesn't like," but I still liked it. Clint Eastwood is getting OLD and wrinkly. But he's still a mean SOB. After his wife's passing, Walt grudgingly helps out the Asian neighbours by breaking up a fight on their lawn and ends up in the middle of a gang war, sort of.
It's sort of a slow build up, so you get to like this really grumpy racist man. The script is really clever. There are some fantastic lines. :)
But - a lot of swearing and some gun violence. Not so good for the kiddies.

Feedback! I've only been to one meeting (last Sunday) and have been getting the scattered bits of information organized and start contacting people for sponsorship, etc.
I received this yesterday.

As a result of last weekend's Animaritimes convention, I met a neat person: CL. She is the representative for Steve Jackson games (i.e. Munchkin) in Atlantic Canada. She's going to get ME signed up as a helper to run Munchkin games in the city and around the area. So that's awesome.
As a result of being friends with CL, she's introduced me to the local "con" scene - including Hal-Con, taking place in October 2010. I got in touch with the organizer and have jumped in to help coordinate some such stuff. With my background in tourism and being a super organizey and very excitable person, they've gladly welcomed me in to the fold. So - despite only being in for two days already ... they've accepted my ideas. See the Cafe Press store below. MY IDEA. :D

Also - this convention is going to be freaking awesome for the geek factor.
Guest of Honor - Walter Koenig (Chekhov - Star Trek The Original Series)
Special Guests - Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett - Star Wars ESB, ROTJ)
- Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar - Star Trek The Next Generation)
- Aaron Gouglas (Chief Tyrol - Battlestar Galactica)
- Andrienne Wilkinson ( Livia/Eve - Xena, Maris Brood Star Wars:The Force Unleashed)
Plus a ton of authors, models, etc etc.
Best time to visit Halifax in 2010? Halloween weekend! :D

I bought a hat. It's a fleece cap with cat ears.
I won the Munchkin tournament. This is my prize:

It was awesome. I beat out 17 other players for the win. Will post photos later.
I also buddied up with the woman running the tournament. We have a ridiculous amount of stuff in common and she lives in Halifax somewhere. There's a volunteer thing I can sign up for to work with Munchkin and be a rep. Which I'm definitely going to check into.

( high-larious )
Whoopi Goldberg = Gaia, Mother Earth
Levar Burton = Kwame, power of Water
Captain Planet and the Planeteers (cast)
WTF?

Drawing on his previous job experience as a secret spy guy, Bryan flies to Paris to track down the Albanians responsible for his daughter's kidnap before she's lost forever.
Sex trafficking, violence, guns, ninja-like movements, and some awesome deaths! This movie was way better than I expected and a real thrill to watch. Even a good car chase is thrown in. An action fan should appreciate this one!
( awesome pic of death )

I'm probably going to see this movie tonight.
Friday the 13th, ON Friday the 13th!
oh the marketing write itself.
I'll post a review later.

This was a pretty good action movie. It centers around people that have special abilities; watchers (who see the future), movers (people with telekinetic power), sniffers (who see an object's history by its smell), etc... A team of two set out to retrieve a briefcase containing an item to bring down Division (the organization who captures these special people for science experiments) and rescue a girl's mother trapped inside.
Lots of special effects, good plot, even some good lines. Didn't involve any heavy thinking and left the ending somewhat incomplete - which I like. Not everything needs to be gift wrapped to be understood.
